Niet alle informatie moet per se als metadata bij de foto’s worden ingebed. Een duidelijke mappenstructuur voor je digitaal archief levert vaak al veel contextuele informatie op (zie hiervoor ook de tools [[Maak een ordeningsplan/mappenstructuur]] en [[Naamgeving van mappen en bestanden]]). Je hoeft bijvoorbeeld bij de foto’s in de map “Nieuwjaarsreceptie_2019” niet nog eens bij elke individuele foto inhoudelijke metadata inbedden die aangeeft dat het om die specifieke receptie gaat.
