DE SINGEL has provided access to lots of born-digital and digitised archive content on its own website. This online archive provides valuable contextual information, both for people who want some background information for the current programme and for visitors to the website who might be looking for historical information for any other reason. In order to reach a wider audience than just the people visiting DE SINGEL's website, the arts centre opted to publish archive content for which it, as an organisation, is the sole rightsholder under a free [[Creative Commons-licentie als een oplossing voor de rechtenproblematiek|Creative Commons licence]] (CC BY 4.0). It then uploaded this content to Wikimedia Commons, which is the Wikimedia Foundation's media database for images, video and audio covered by a [[Licentie|free licence]] or in the [[public domain]]. DE SINGEL followed the method already used by lots of museums for this: making data and digital reproductions of collection items available as openly as possible. DE SINGEL also see this as its public service and hopes it will generate added extra visibility, both for artists who appear at DE SINGEL and for the organisation itself. Three sub-collections were identified within the archive content which are suitable for upload to Wikimedia Commons:

DE SINGEL heeft heel wat ''digital born'' en gedigitaliseerd archiefmateriaal op de eigen website ontsloten. Dat online archief biedt interessante contextinformatie, zowel voor mensen die achtergrond willen bij de actuele programmatie als voor websitebezoekers die om andere redenen naar historische informatie op zoek zijn. Om een breder publiek te bereiken dan wie op de website van DE SINGEL terecht komt, koos DE SINGEL ervoor om archiefmateriaal waarvan ze zelf als organisatie de enige rechthebbende zijn te publiceren onder een vrije [[Creative Commons-licentie als een oplossing voor de rechtenproblematiek|Creative Commonslicentie]] (CC BY 4.0) en te uploaden naar Wikimedia Commons. Dat is de mediadatabase van de Wikimedia Foundation voor o.a. afbeeldingen, video en geluid die onder een [[Licentie|vrije licentie]] vallen of tot het [[publiek domein]] behoren. DE SINGEL volgt hiermee de aanpak die al heel wat musea volgen: data en digitale reproducties van collectiestukken zo open mogelijk ter beschikking stellen. Ook DE SINGEL ziet dit als haar publieke opdracht en hoopt hierdoor ook extra zichtbaarheid te genereren, zowel voor de artiesten die in DE SINGEL optreden als voor de organisatie zelf. Binnen het archiefmateriaal werden drie deelcollecties geïdentificeerd die in aanmerking kwamen voor upload op Wikimedia Commons:
