It's best to save 2D CAD drawing files in a format that is commonly used and easy to open, usually DWG or DXF. Architects not using Autodesk products are recommended to save drawings with exchanged and published status in DWG or DXF. Make sure that files which refer to each other (such as XREFs or plot style files) are saved together (this is possible in AutoCAD via the etransmit command).
